Description

A video making competition which zooms into the lives of entrepreneurs, and focuses on their story, their struggle, their ‘strive’ in short. The event intends to draw attention to the effort an individual must make to fulfill his/her dreams as well as polish the videography skills of its participants. Participants of this event, which consisted of two rounds, were to make an engaging video that walked us through the journey of an entrepreneur ‘through the lens,’ featuring how the entrepreneur strived against any struggles that came their way. As the Director General, not only was i responsible for the entire execution of the event but also filled in for my Graphics team and gave the entire event its visual aesthetic.

The event ‘Entrepreneur’s Strive: Through the lens’ was organized by  Ned Entrepreneurship Society with the aim of providing a competitive platform to showoff one’s videography and storytelling skills. Participants of this event, which consisted of two rounds, were to make an engaging video that walked us through the journey of an entrepreneur ‘through the lens,’ featuring how the entrepreneur strived against any struggles that came their way.

Round 1:  Aworkshop on the making and editing of your karoobani kahani:

the aesthetic of the event was captured using duotones to represent the two sides of a story. We usually see the success but never the struggle. With that in mind, the branding of the event paved way. Having an illustrious amount of hues to play with, the main event banner was Purple. The color purple is often associated with power, and ambition. Purple also represents meanings of wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur and devotion. This is all what entrepreneurship is about.

All posters were designed as a landing page. The main text aligned to the left with an hero image correlating with the text on the right. The two main logos, i.e. the logo of the society and the logo of the event were consistent on the bottom of the poster each with sufficient buffer from the edges. The deep impact of having each poster made to convert leads resulted in greater reach and clicks to apply. The designs sparked curiosity amongst the participants and we had over 100 registrations before the deadline closed.

The minimalistic designs made for more easier and attractive reading of posters and with the right contrast made sure that the elements that needed to pop were indeed 'popping'

The entire play was emphasis on numbers, the right amount of text overlay on the digit gave sense of depth. The imagery invoked more thoughts of time running out and the minimalistic touch with enough white space created a highly impactful design. The right contrast complimented the design very well and all design principles were followed in each design.

Next came the speaker launch posters.

Yzza Slaoui, eminently known for her filmmaking andphotography, shared with the audience the various video-making techniques andhow one can work on making the video more engaging, visually appealing andinteresting. She also pointed out ways to take a successful interview andelaborated on how she usually plans out how the interview will go about. Yzzaalso held an interactive session wherein she would have the audience judgevarious elements of still frames of videos and have a discourse on which oneslooked least distracting, most engaging and most professional.

With the event being interspersed with interesting discussions on topicslike what it means to be an entrepreneur and if high-tech equipment matter agreat deal in videography , and with ‘therapy sessions’ where everyone wasasked to clap in synchronicity, the audience was kept engaged and energized.

AamirBhagat, the CEO of 6 Seven 8 9 productions, expressedhis views on how videos can be a much more expressive medium of storytellingthan traditional mediums; he also highlighted how important a role each elementof film-making plays, examples being the lighting of the set, the camera angleand the quality of the audio, and explained how a wrong move with any of theseelements can lead to the viewers being distracted from the story and mainelements of the video.
