Calligraphy in Urdu script is considered an art form. It is often used to write a verse or saying, or someone's name or a title. The images created by a calligrapher can be abstract shapes, or sometimes forms of objects or animals. Urdu is an Indic language closely related to Hindi but written in the Persian script and having many loanwords from Persian and Arabic. It is the official language of Pakistan, and is also widely used in India and elsewhere.
